Havelock
Sports Club produced a ruthless first-half display to crush Army Sports Club by
41 points (three goals, four tries) to 12 points (one goal, two tries) and
retained the annual Yenfoon Pakstun Challenge Trophy in their SLR Inter-Club
‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament match played at Havelock Park yesterday,
after leading 34-0 at half time.
Havelock
SC ran riot before the break, piling up a superior 34–0 lead and effectively
sealing the contest inside 40 minutes. The emphatic win lifted the Park Club to
second place on the points table after four matches.
Full
back Yehan Bulathsinhalage opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a try
in the left corner. Number eight Chathura Dilshan then struck twice through
sheer forward power, one from a driving maul and another after a dominant
five-metre scrum, as Havelock SC tightened their grip.
Hooker
Azmir Fajudeen added another try from close range before winger Janidu
Wijeratne thrilled the home crowd with an intercept run, which was awarded
after TMO confirmation.
Bulathsinhalage
capped a brilliant half by scoring his second try, with fly half Stephan
Sivaraj converting to make it 34–0 at the interval.
Army
SC showed more fight after the resumption, with number eight Vinod Kumar and
prop Ijas Ahamed crossing for converted tries to reduce the deficit to 34–12,
helped by a yellow card to Sivaraj.
But
Havelock SC had the final word. Jayathu Rajaratne sealed the rout with a
stunning 100-metre dash to the corner, Sivaraj adding the extras to complete
the 41–12 win.
Nabil
Yahiya made his club rugby debut for Havelock SC.
Referee: Kelum Sandaruwan.
