Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) on Thursday (20) announced
the appointment of three trustees, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening
governance and promoting the growth of the game across the nation. This was
stated by the sport’s governing body in a media release.
The appointments were made at the Special General
Meeting (SGM) held on 4 November with the members being voted unanimously.
The newly appointed trustees are Marshal of the
Air Force W. D. M. J. Goonetileke, Group Captain Nalin de Silva (Retd.), and
Cicero De Fonseka.
The SLR states that these appointments would mark
a significant step towards advice and direct the Council to uplift the game in
enhancing strategic oversight and fostering transparency within Sri Lanka
Rugby.
The trustees, according to the ruling body, are
set to play a crucial role in guiding the organisation’s future development,
ensuring effective governance, and supporting initiatives to inspire rugby
enthusiasts and nurture young talent throughout the length and breadth of this
country.
“We are delighted to welcome such esteemed
individuals to our governance team,” SLR President Pavithra Fernando said.
“Their expertise and dedication will be invaluable as we aim to elevate our sport to new heights and build a sustainable future for rugby in Sri Lanka.”
