CR and FC and Air Force SC with 11 points each
are placed as joint leaders of the points table at the conclusion of the second
week of matches of the ongoing Maliban Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament for
the 2025-26 season.
CR led by utility forward Lasindu Karunathilaka
secured a 19-0 victory over Army SC at Panagoda on Friday (21) before the match
was called off at half time by referee Raveen Alexander due to heavy rain
accompanied with lightning.
With the comfortable win CR backed up their 65-8
triumph over Siri Lions the previous week at home and so far the Dushanth
Lewke-coached team has recorded 14 tries with seven of them being converted.
Air Force SC who also have two wins in as many
games similar to CR and FC, edged out Police SC 26-17 at Police Park also on
the same day.
This was before severe lightning coupled with
fading light prompted referee Kelum Sandaruwan to award the game to the Air Men
in the 69th minute taking into consideration player safety.
Havelocks SC under Sandesh Jayawickrama are
placed second with a tally of 10 points following their 42-11 win over Siri
Lions at Havelock Park on Saturday (22).
The Park Club have amassed 11 tries with nine of
them being converted thus far having won one and drawn one while they are
followed by defending champions Kandy SC.
The team from Nittawela who came out swinging for the first time having enjoyed a respite in the first week, smashed Navy SC 44-14 at Welisara also on the same day and they have gained 6 points.
