The platinum awards initiative by MTV / MBC Network to spread Rugby across the
country reached the North Central Province, North Western and Western province
during the last 1 week, with rugby introduction programs carried out by Sri
Lanka Rugby.
Sri Lanka Rugby and MTV
/ MBC Network are carrying out an island wide campaign to promote and develop
rugby at the grass root level, starting from Schools at all districts and
provinces around the country.
On the 17th January, the
campaign reached Gampaha, and the program was conducted at the Bandaranayake
College Grounds. 3 Schools participated, namely Sussex College, Thakshila College
and host Bandaranayake College.
On the 18th January, the
campaign reached Puttalam, and the program was conducted at the Ananda College
Grounds. 8 Schools participated, namely Zahira College, Anamaduwa Central
College, St. Sebastian%u2019s College, Dhammassara National College, Anurudha CC,
St. Joseph Vaz and Vijaya Maha Vidyalaya.

On the 19th January, the
campaign reached Anuradhapura. 5 Schools participated. Swarnamali Girls National College, Zahira
College, Mathripala National College, Anuradhapura Central College and Walisinghe
Harischandra Central College were the schools who took part.
For Sri Lanka Rugby, Janaka Silva, Chanushka Nishantha, Ruwan Buddika, Nalaka Roshan, Buddika Herath and Tharindu Perera conducted the introductory program.
