A rugby training and certificate awarding event for women Physical Education Instructors (PITs) was organized by Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) and held from March 17-19 at the Research Centre for Education and Development in Meegoda.
As many as 35 participants selected by the Education Ministry attended the course after which they were awarded with Level the 1 15-a-side rugby coaching certificate.

As many as 35 participants selected by the Education Ministry attended the course after which they were awarded with the Level 1 15-a-side rugby coaching certificate.
Dr. Samantha Nanayakkara, SLR Executive Council Member and Female SLR Council Member, who was the livewire of the program said that the ladies took to the training with huge interest and added that the efforts of everyone helped to produce a 100% success. “There were PTIs from all nine provinces and teachers from five internationalschools. I must thank Nihal Guneratne and Ananda Kasthuriarachchi for their inputs in coaching and the motivating talk given to the girls by Group Captain Nalin de Silva who is the Vice President of SLR. I must also thank the Ministry of Education for arranging the food and accommodation for the participants and the huge help given to us by Upali Amaratunga who is the Director Physical Education at Ministry of Education. The participants received a certificate valued by World Rugby at the conclusion of the course,” said Dr. Nanayakkara.
The course was organised by Imran Thalpage who serves Sri Lanka Rugby as a Senior Coordinator and Development Officer. SLR President Rizly Illyas, Vice President Group Captain Nalin de Silva and other rugby union appointed officials participated at the event.
