Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has announced an exclusive international
development opportunity for Sri Lankan youth players through a special
invitation extended by the Korean Rugby-Football Union (KRU). Under this
initiative, a Sri Lankan Under-15 Development Squad will participate in a
high-performance training and exposure programme in South Korea from 15 to 22
December 2025.
SLR conveys its sincere appreciation to KRU for their
exceptional generosity and continued support toward developing youth rugby in
Sri Lanka.
The entire tour — air travel, visa processing, in-country
accommodation, meals, transport, and all medical costs — will be fully covered
by KRU, reflecting the strong and growing partnership between the two unions.
Within a short period of time recognising the significant
developmental value of the programme and the extraordinary support extended by
KRU, SLR immediately engaged the Sri Lanka Schools’ Rugby Football Association
(SLSRFA) to explore viable alternatives that would allow Sri Lanka to honour this
important invitation without missing the opportunity.
Selection of a reward-based U-14 Development Squad
Following discussions, it was agreed that the most fair and
practical approach — given the limited timeframe — would be to reward the
top-performing teams of the recent season. Accordingly, the touring team will
consist of players from the two schools that reached the Under-14 Final last
month – Zahira College and Wesley College.
Team leaves the country on 14 December.
Squad List: Zafar Nuaz, Huzmaan Branudeen, Amhar
Hussain, Mohamed Arkam, Rishad Rizvy, Haleem Chunchi, M.S. Ammar, Habeeb
Mifraz, Sajjadh Reeza (Zahira), Rawaha Sheriff, Shiyam Hamdaan, Ryan De Silva,
Abdul Rahman, Sasmitha Rashen, Sulochana Ransiru, Asher Wijeratne, Denver De
Zilwa and Yohan Fernando (Wesley)
